Volume Surge Screener
The Volume Surge Screener identifies stocks exhibiting unusual trading activity that may signal a momentum shift. It combines multiple volume-based indicators to give traders early insight into potential breakouts or reversals. The main tools used include:
- Volume Spike Detection: Flags when current volume exceeds 2× the moving average (default is 20-day), suggesting sudden institutional activity or breakout pressure.
- Volume Moving Average: Overlays a user-defined moving average (5, 20, 50, 100, 200 days) on the volume bars to benchmark what "normal" looks like.
- Price Action: Displays closing price trends along with spike annotations to identify where price responds to volume surges.
- On-Balance Volume (OBV): Tracks cumulative buying/selling pressure by adding/subtracting volume based on whether price closes up or down.
- Divergence: If OBV rises while price is flat, it may hint at an upcoming bullish move.
- Confirmation: If both OBV and price are rising, it confirms trend strength.
- Weakness: If OBV stalls or falls while price rises, it may indicate fading momentum.
